Shades of Summer

Whether the sun is shinning or not, adding a bright pop of colour to your beauty routine will make you feel like summer personified.  I absolutely adore bright lips and nails.  I have put together a list of summer shades that are budget friendly.

Starting with lips Wet n Wild lipsticks are fantastic.  I’m actually recommending all of the bright shades which range from corals to bright pinks.  I want to mention two in particular Coral-ine which as the name suggests is a bright coral shade.  It will suit most people and is absolutely gorgeous.  Purty Persimmon is one for the brave.  It is a very bright orange and it is an amazing summery shade.  It is probably my favourite from the whole range.  Wet n Wild lipsticks are €2.99 each.  They are unbelievably priced and their quality far exceeds the price tag.  I’d like to mention at this point that Wet n Wild is a cruelty free brand.

If a lipstick is too heavy for you in warm weather then Catrice’s tinted lip balms are fantastic.  I’m obsessed with the Cherry coloured one.  It is so light on the lips.  It gives a nice shine without being overly glossy.  I always have one of these in my bag.

The New Black Nail Varnish

I have my nails painted all the time.  They are usually red but I’m experimenting with more colours and trying to have different nails each week.  I recently bought the Glimmer Twins set from The New Black polishes, in well, black.  The set contained a glossy black and a glittery black.  The main reason I bought the set was because of the glittery black and I was very excited to try them out. I bought the set from Cloud 10 Beauty and it was on sale for €6.50 reduced from €13.

The glossy black is nice and easy to apply.  The coverage is great and I didn’t need many layers.  There is also a nice shine to it.  The glitter varnish, however, was a bit disappointing.  I was expecting an amazing sparkle but instead the glitter was hard to spot and pretty dull.  I’ll be very honest I didn’t leave the glitter polish on for very long at all and swapped for a Rimmel polish instead.  Do excuse the state of my nails and cuticles in the pictures.

As much as I liked the glossy black, the bottle broke on the second use as the lid came apart.  I definitely wouldn’t pay full price for this set because the varnishes are actually quite small and the main selling point for me being the glitter varnish was a bit of a disappointment.  I’m not entirely sure I’d actually buy another The New Black again as the … Read the rest

Caroline’s Beauty

Last Thursday I turned up on the doorstep of Caroline’s Beauty in Rush like a woman deranged.  I didn’t have an appointment and I was looking for some last minute assistance.  I have talons and I can’t face cutting them.  I had chipped a few nails and had glued them back together with teabags.  I should state that as bonkers as this sounds it normally does work but I had made a mess of it that particular day.  I had a wedding to go to the next morning and my hands were, quite frankly, disturbing looking.  Caroline was so kind to me and although she was closing at 8 and booked up until then she told me I could come back at 8.15 and she’d sort them out for me.  This was really generous of her.

I’d never had my nails done before so I was very interested to know all about the various tools that she had.   I was also a bit nervous because apart from seeming like a complete idiot with teabags glued to my nails, I don’t really like people “at” me so that’s why I tend to paint my nails myself.  I didn’t need to worry at all because Caroline was lovely and chatted away with me.  The treatment room was lovely and comfy and there was a general relaxed atmosphere.

She fixed up my teabag / glue situation and painted my nails a lovely shade of red.  We quickly got talking about my favourite topic … Read the rest
