Halloween Hygge

I plan to do some Halloween hauls but at the moment I have so much stuff that I don’t even know where to start.  I thought it would be nice to apply Hygge to Halloween.  Hygge is something that I have started to introduce to my life about a year ago.  Halloween is my absolute favourite time of year.  I live for it.  This year, however, it hasn’t been as easy to celebrate Halloween as we have suffered the loss of our beautiful baby, Pumpkin.  I won’t get into that now because it is too painful and sad, instead I’ll discuss some self-caring and fun things to do at Halloween other than eating lots of sweet and scaring the bejaysus out of people (both of which are very great activities). Here are a few Halloween things that I think lend themselves well to the concept.

Pumpkin Soup

I’m not one for being overly warm or cosy.  I hate the idea of fleece socks or pjs as I’m constantly boiling.  Those kind of things make me feel claustrophobic so for me candles and soup is about as toasty as I’m willing to go.  This pumpkin soup is lovely; it is healthy and low in fat.

You will need a pumpkin, a red pepper, an onion and some stock, chicken or vegetable, whichever works for you.

  1. Cut the pumpkin into segments like you would with a melon and roast it in the oven for about 15 minutes.  This will make it easier

Littlewoods Ireland Blog Awards 2016

I am absolutely thrilled to announce that I have been shortlisted for Best Beauty Blog in the Littlewoods Ireland Blog Awards.

Littlewoods Ireland Blog Awards Shortlist logo

It has been difficult keeping the blog going over the last while with working full-time, clinical placement, completing a part-time masters and life in general but it has been worth it.  Although I’m not always the most regular blogger it has been a hugely enjoyable experience sharing my views on beauty products, creating tutorials, transforming into Disney (and other) characters and having the odd rant.

Thank you so much to anyone and everyone that has ever taken the time to read one of my posts.  It means the world to me.

I am now looking for some more help please in the form of votes.  If you like what I do please consider voting for me in the shortlist.

You can vote for my blog below.

Penneys Spring Summer 2016

Last Thursday on an incredibly wet and dull day I made my way to Penneys HQ for a preview of their spring summer collection.  As wet and dreary as it was outside, we were instantly cheered up the minute we got in the door.  There was a lovely breakfast buffet to greet us upon arrival.  The staff were also there to offer a warm welcome.  They are seriously the nicest people and are really helpful and sweet.

The collection which will be launching in January has a couple of main elements.  There’s lots of gorgeous strong patterns as well as floaty floral boho pieces.  Finally there’s an emphasis on denim looks with both long and short skirts and dresses.

Camp California – 70s style with bright and bold shades and denim.  There are plenty of beautiful 70s style accessories to match.

Road to Morocco – nomadic festival stlye.  Lots of textures, tassels and fringing.

Laundered and Humble – casual fashion staples and minimal prints.  There are plenty of denim skirts and dresses.

Sheer Romance – floaty and breezy bohemian day-wear.  The pieces are soft, sheer and beautiful.

One of my favourite items was the orange and brown zig zag skirt which will be €10.

The shoes are absolutely gorgeous with offerings in black and tan.  I loved the heels but I was really drawn to the gladiator style sandals.  I need the Disney bag in my life and I can’t wait to get it.

Travelling Light(ish)

As great as it is to have a little break and get away for a few days, it can be a pain trying to pack cosmetic products (read necessities).  It is particularly hard when only carrying hand luggage and trying to stay below the liquid limit.  I recently went away and tried to pack lightly so here’s my guide to bringing as little as possible.

The first thing I packed was the Pippa palette from Blank Canvas Cosmetics.  Regular readers will know that I adore this palette.  Not only did it contain an array of gorgeous eyeshadows, it also has a bronzer, highlighter and blusher so I had almost everything I needed in one handy palette.  Sticking with the eyes, I can’t be without liner so I brought Winging It, again from Blank Canvas Cosmetics.  Finally I brought a mascara from Max Factor.

My current foundation of choice is MAC’s Pro Longwear Nourishing foundation.  The tube is 25mls, great for travelling but not so good for the wallet and general use.

Over the last six weeks or so I have been using Catrice’s Liquid Camouflage concealer.  It is great, covers all sorts of spots and blemishes and lasts all day.  It is 5 mls.

Since it was Halloween I went with a bright orange lipstick from Flormar.  Provocative Orange is gorgeous and I paired it with Pumpkin lip liner from NYX.

Dublin Comic Con 2015

For the first time, this year I attended the Dublin Comic Con.  I have wanted to go before but for one reason or another it had never worked out.  I had a number of costumes for consideration but as we were sitting watching Bojack Horseman one evening we decided it would be funny to go as Bojack and Princess Caroline.  This is just a quick post to tell you how I made the costume, created the make-up and some information about Comic Con itself.

Once I suggested dressing up as Princess Caroline I quickly realised I had nothing that was remotely like her costume.  I did what anyone in a clothing crisis does, I went to Penneys.  I was really lucky because I found both a green and yellow skater dress on sale for €3 each.  I also found a pink bob wig for €8.

I cut a fish shape out of cardboard and then used it to cut fish out of the yellow dress.  I was feeling fairly lazy so I attached them to the green dress with fabric glue rather than stitching them on.  I bought pink cat ears in H&M for €3.  I already had pink tights and a yellow cardigan so that was my costume sorted.

I didn’t have time to try out my make-up before Comic Con so on the morning I had to hope for the best.  I found a cat nose in Tiger for €1 which I painted pink.  I cut the string … Read the rest
