Week One: Donate Unwanted Christmas Gifts

Happy New Year!  I have been in a bit of a blogging slump over the last few months but I feel that I have a found a new project which I’m very passionate about and can’t wait to share with all of you.  I’m so thrilled to say that today I’m launching 52 Weeks of Kindness.  Each week in 2018 I will be suggesting an act of kindness to follow through on.  There is no such thing as too much kindness and I’m quite sure we could all do with showing more and receiving more.  The tiniest act of kindness can make a huge difference to someone and we should all want to be part of that.  I’m hoping that both bloggers and readers will join in and I would love any suggestions you might have.

My week one act of kindness is to donate unwanted Christmas presents.

There are plenty of worthy charities in need of unwanted or extra gifts.  Presents can be donated to the Pro Cathedral which will be given to individuals in need next Christmas by Crosscare.  Gifts can be donated to refuges, children’s groups, hospitals and many other deserving organisations.  Did you get another pair of pyjamas or a dressing gown that you don’t want? They would be very welcome in a homeless shelter.  Maybe you got  a dress that isn’t for you which could be put to better use in a refuge.  Perhaps your little one got an extra toy which would be played with in Barnardos or the Children’s Hospital.  If you don’t have an unwanted gift then maybe you could pick something up in the sales and donate it.

Don’t forget animals. Dog and cat stockings of treats and toys are always appreciated in shelters.  Our four legged friends don’t mind that they are out of season and will enjoy the treats regardless of what month it is.

Most of us are back in work today and our trees are coming down but that doesn’t mean that the season of goodwill should end.  Let’s make it a year of goodwill.
